Christmas Pantomimes in the UK

Things are bound to take a side-splitting overturn as pantomimes come to town this Christmas season. Men in huge ball gowns and women in princely tunics and leggings take centre-stage in the English ‘panto,’ a uniquely British theatrical entertainment form that rivals the North American Vaudeville.

Satirical songs, comic antics, serious buffoonery, and discreet sexual innuendos send holidaymakers to a wild gag fest in this English tradition. Children’s stories such as Cinderella and Aladdin (which have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas) are told and presented in the most hilarious ways imaginable. The audience, both young and old, get to join in the fun, too, screaming warnings to heroes such as “Look behind you!” If you’re lucky, you may also get to see famous celebrities perform alongside C- and D-list actors from soap operas.

Quick! Grab your gag gift bag now and scoop out a host of pantomime surprises this Christmas! Here are some of them . . .

An “ice spectacular” show follows in the Ice Forest with Russia’s “Dancing on Ice” skaters. Of course, loads of action sequences, hit songs, and comedy are part of the deal, too.
